The Floating Youth Hub is an exciting initiative designed to offer activities and services to youth in Timiskaming District. Operating as part of the Planet Youth Timiskaming effort, the Floating Youth Hub rotates between different locations, making it easier for young people aged 12-17 to access fun drop-in activities and supports in their communities.

What is the Floating Youth Hub?

Unlike a single fixed location, the Floating Youth Hub moves between various sites—schools, libraries, community centers, and other welcoming spaces—on a scheduled basis. This rotational model ensures that youth across Timiskaming District have the chance to connect with drop-in activities, meet new friends, and access services that help them thrive.

The hub is a safe, inclusive, and substance free space, where young people can explore their interests, build new skills, and get mental health support —all close to home.

What is offered at the hub?

At the Floating Youth Hub, youth can enjoy a range of activities and services tailored to their needs, including:

  • Recreational Activities: Join fun events like open gym nights, gaming sessions, skate ‘n’ chill or creative arts workshops.
  • Mental Health Support: Access to trained counsellors and/or peer mentors who provide a listening ear and guidance.
  • Basic Needs Support: Get access to resources like basic hygiene products, and free snacks.
  • Skill-Building Workshops: Learn essential life skills like resume writing, cooking, financial literacy and more.
  • Youth Leadership Opportunities: Participate in programs that encourage confidence and building connections.

  • Adult Volunteers: Help with event logistics, share your skills in workshops, or offer mentorship.
  • Youth Volunteers: Become part of the hub’s operations, help plan events or assist your peers or simply show up to create that positive space for your fellow youth!
  • Peer Mentors: Support younger youth in the community by listening, sharing your experiences and offering guidance.

Two adult volunteers/ hub leads stand behind a table at a Planet Youth information booth inside a school hallway. The table is covered with pamphlets, forms, and a bowl. Behind them is a banner that reads "Planet Youth Timiskaming" with a slogan about supporting strong youth. The hallway is decorated with a bookshelf, bulletin boards, and school-related materials.
A group of young people and an adult (youth hub volunteer) are gathered around a table playing the board game "Sequence" at the youth hub. Other board games, including "Taboo" and "Pictionary," are visible on the table. A student in the background is eating pizza. The setting appears to be a classroom with multiple tables set up with other board games.
Youth are playing basketball and volleyball in a school gym. Some are holding basketballs while others are shooting hoops or practicing volleyball near the net.
