Parent Cafés in Timiskaming!
Parent Cafés are local events led by parents, for parents.
Cafés are already running in the New Liskeard, Kirkland Lake, and Englehart area, and we’re just getting started. Come on your own or bring a friend and see what the parent cafe *magic* is all about!
What are Parent Cafés?
Parent Cafés are relaxed and welcoming gatherings where parents and caregivers can connect, share experiences, and talk about the ups and downs of raising kids and teens.
Cafés are held in community spaces across the district and usually last for a couple of hours. You’ll join a group of other parents/caregivers, have some light refreshments, and take part in engaging conversations led by trained local hosts (usually a parent themselves!).
Each Café has a theme and guided conversations in small groups. Cafes focus on real-life topics like:
- Managing stress when you’re pulled in a million directions
- Building healthy habits as a family.
- Supporting your child’s mental health, social influences, and decision-making
- Setting boundaries
- Building your village
- And most importantly, taking care of you!
Everyone gets a chance to share (if they want to—no pressure!), and everything said stays in the group.
It’s not a workshop. It’s not a lecture. It’s just honest conversation with other parents who get it. Most importantly, there is free food, and a chance to get out and take some time just for you.
The hope is that everyone who attends will walk away feeling a little bit lighter, more connected to other parents in their community, and with a few new ideas to add to their parenting toolbox.
When’s the next café? Is it free?
Parent Cafés are always free and open to all parents and caregivers. We host them all year in different communities. Check our Events Calendar online or follow us on Facebook for dates and locations.
How can I join the Parent Café team?
We’re always looking for helpers! There’s a role for everyone. Hosts get training and an honorarium for their time.
